Goswell Road curates their second solo project with David West—The Velvet Touch—at La Caféothèque de Paris in Paris' 4th arrondissement. All the works, bar one, are acrylic and glazes on velvet, dating from 2019 to 2024. They are hallucinatory, spiritual, nocturnal and sometimes hilarious.
A horse drinks a giant martini.
A slap in the face.
She’s a mess.
A miniskirt in the rain.
Canals, streets, mountains, homicide.
Off the hook.
West draws his knives and paints the light.
The velvet works begin here where they began in earnest; he started painting on velvet in 2019 and the first works in the series were shown in our Terrible Twos show that same year.
The anomaly is a single canvas depicting Kim Salmon playing in the basement of La Mécanique Ondulatoire in 2018. This work connects to the last West solo project we presented in 2018 at Paris Internationale which focused on his music works.
On February 20th, West will create a special cocktail for the reception, which promises to be the perfect accompaniment.
