"BECAUSE I AM A MAN, DREAMING OF A MAN"

Hristo Mavrev (b.1975) and Marin Mavrev (b.1979) are two gay brothers from Razlog, Bulgaria. Man To Man reveals the brothers’ burgeoning sexual identity, through the lens of the infamous Starchevata Kukeri folk festival held annually in Razlog. A recurring moment of male power, aggression, futility, fertility, lust, ritual, and magic.

The brothers hide and reveal each other, in an intimate personal dialogue - tearing away the layers of trauma - inviting us to navigate the space, delicately weaving in and out between the works, articulating the realization of a forbidden love.

Man To Man, the brothers’ first exhibition together, is curated by Goswell Road. A limited edition A5 hardcover art book is published by Goswell Road for the occasion.

Hristo Mavrev (b.1975, Razlog, Bulgaria) is a visual artist. He lives and works in Bern, Switzerland.

Marin Mavrev (b.1979, Razlog, Bulgaria) is a ceramicist. He lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
